Media Production Experience in Kenya
Working in Kenya as a Media Creator
During my work practice in Kenya, I had the opportunity to work with Home Street Home, where I gained experience in media production and digital content creation.
My tasks included filming videos, editing content, photographing events and environments, and creating promotional materials for the company’s website and communication.
One of my favorite projects was designing a flyer that helped promote the organization and its activities. I also worked on video editing projects that improved my technical skills and creativity.
Working in Kenya gave me valuable international experience and taught me how media can be used to communicate stories and connect with people.
The experience also improved my teamwork, communication skills, and confidence working in a real production environment.
Travelling to Kenya for my work practice was a meaningful experience because Kenya is my home country, while I currently live and study in Finland. During my first days at Home Street Home , I became familiar with the workplace and quickly started working on filming, photography, video editing, and visual communication projects. The experience allowed me to combine the media skills I learned in Finland with practical creative work in Kenya.
One of my first responsibilities was filming videos for the organization. I recorded different activities, environments, and moments that could later be used for storytelling and social media content. Through filming, I learned how important camera angles, lighting, movement, and timing are when creating meaningful video content. Sometimes filming required quick reactions and creativity because many situations happened naturally and unexpectedly. Working in a different country also challenged me to adapt to new filming conditions and communicate effectively with people during production.
Designing a Flyer for Home Street Home
One of the creative projects I worked on was designing a flyer for the organization’s website and communication materials. The goal of the flyer was to present information clearly while also looking visually attractive and professional. During the design process, I focused on layout, colors, typography, and balancing images with text. This project improved my graphic design skills and taught me how visual communication can help organizations share their message more effectively.
